Cyclone: ‘Nothing compared to that car’
A reader writes, Dear AR1.com, regarding your article on Mercury Cyclones, I had a 1970 with a 4 speed Hurst shifter, but my engine a Boss 429. I don't know how I ended up with it in the car, but we dynoed it at over 500hp. That's as high as the dyno would go. We bought it new off of the lot in 74, the car had 2200 miles on it, and we got it for a steal.
The car had serious get up and go. 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds and yet I could break the rear end loose at 60 mph by just stepping on it if I wanted to pass somebody.
As a college kid I got a lot of tickets. I've had a lot of cars since then, and I've driven a lots of great cars but nothing has compared to that car as far as the feeling of power. Carl Forshage
