Audi confirms it wants to build a Daytona Prototype

Audi Sport wants to build a Daytona Prototype to race in the 2014 United Sportscar Racing series according to Wolfgang Ullrich. However the program is far from confirmed as the marque does not have a suitable engine. "The rules say the engine should be based on a production unit with a maximum of eight cylinders and a maximum capacity of five liters" explains Ullrich.

"This is a little bit of a problem we have a 5 liter V10 and a four liter V8. This is what we are discussing, trying to find a solution. We have to race in the USA. Running just with customers is not right, it is not pushing the brand of Audi to run some cars in the lowest category, this only works well if you have some activity in the top category and that's what we need to do."

Audi is thought to be pushing for its five liter V10 to be allowed in the Prototype class next year, if it is then it is almost certain that Audi Sport will develop a DPG3 body to suit the current chassis.
