Legge to race DeltaWing at Monterey

After her first test with DeltaWing Racing Cars in Road Atlanta, Katherine Legge will make her first race start for the team at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on May 11.

Legge joins Andy Meyrick to create an all-English driver lineup for the DeltaWing’s first start in Monterey, and second race with the its new Élan engine and Bridgestone tires.

"It was really exciting to get in the car on Sunday for the first time," said Legge. "Having driven lots of types of racing cars, I didn’t know what to expect, so I was very pleasantly surprised."

The DeltaWing is unique in running at half the weight, half the fuel and half the horsepower of a normal prototype, and three quarters of the tire consumption. The car ran for the first time in the LMP1 class at Sebring.

Legge described some of the core attributes of the DeltaWing from her first test. She most recently raced in the IndyCar Series in 2012.

"It braked really well, it turned really positively, and it was really fast in a straight line – it drove like a really good racing car," she said. “It was very stable, and I also was impressed with the way it handled. It was really neat to get it going."

Legge replaces Olivier Pla, who raced the DeltaWing in Sebring, due to Pla’s extended European racing schedule. Pla’s schedule includes the remainder of the FIA World Endurance Championship with OAK Racing, and also additional Porsche GT commitments.
