Sao Paolo: Power tops Practice 1
Will Power continued his domination on the streets of Sao Paolo, Brazil by turning the fastest lap in opening practice for tomorrow's Grand Prix of Sao Paolo IndyCar race. Power has won this event the past three years but perhaps domination is not the best word today because his time of 1m21.8157s just beat Josef Newgarden by 0.0459sec. Sebastian Bourdais, who has struggled this season, finally showed the form we all know he is capable of with a time just 0.1978 sec. behind Power.
Dario Franchitti was 4th and JR Hildebrand rounded out the top-5.
Power, who has won all three races at Sao Paulo, is looking for the first win of the season for Team Penske. After tallying off three wins in a row early in 2012, he has not won a race since April 29, 2012, the date of last year’s Sao Paulo Indy 300.
Qualifying groups were determined by times in the morning practice session.
