Jeb Burton on Pole for Charlotte Truck Series Race
Burton ran a lap of 181.372 mph in the two-lap qualifying session for his third career pole in just his tenth series start. Ty Dillon was second with lap of 180.294, followed by Timothy Peters (180.294), Kyle Busch (180.240) and Miguel Paludo (180.216).
Burton, the son of 2002 Daytona 500 winner Ward Burton, posted his first career top 10 finish in this same race a year ago, coming home eighth.
"It's really cool, coming here as a little kid. It's a dream come true," said Burton. "My whole family is here. It's like a hometown track, and it's really cool. So we are trying to get the trophy. I think we have proved to everybody that I belong in NASCAR.
"I am lucky to be driving for such a great team. These guys work hard for me. They believe in me and give me great trucks every week. They have been making me look good."
Jennifer Jo Cobb, who had her race hauler stolen earlier this week – allegedly by fellow NASCAR driver Mike Harmon – was not able to qualify after encountering problems with the race engine in her truck. Norm Benning also failed to qualify for Friday night's race.Pete McCole
