GP2 Monaco Preview

If there is one track on the calendar that every single driver dreams about, it is the twisty and challenging circuit in the prestigious and narrow streets of Monte Carlo. The fourth round of the 2013 GP2 Series will take place in Monaco this week, the home land of leader Stefano Coletti. The Monegasque driver will be seeking a third win this season and to continue his streak of point scoring in each and every single race this year.

Hot on his trail, Felipe Nasr – who has also scored in every event so far – will be on the hunt for glory as well: the talented Brazilian whose climbed to second place in the standings has shown consistency, speed and maturity, enough to be one to watch this weekend along with the likes of this season’s race winners Fabio Leimer, Robin Frijns and Sam Bird. Monte Carlo could also be the redeeming place for last year’s best rookie James Calado whose 2013 season has not been what the talented Brit’ expected so far, but it could also see Jolyon Palmer claim another GP2 win as he brilliantly did in 2012.

Once again this year, the qualifying session will be divided into two sessions of 15 minutes each. Group A will run from 16.15 to 16.30. Group B will run from 16.40 to 16.55. There will be a ten minute break between the two groups. One group will be with odd number cars and the other group will be with even number cars. There will be a ballot to decide which group will go first. More With graphics (PDF)

A good qualifying result will most definitely be key for a strong outcome in the race the following day, but so will tire management. Pirelli have selected the Soft and Supersoft compounds.
