Disagrees with ‘Thin Ice’ article

Dear Ar1.com, In response to the Stephen Cox article: I don't particularly like spec cars either, but dear God, we just witnessed one of the greatest 500s in history. More than 10 cars with a legitimate chance to win it with 10 laps left, nearly 70 passes for the lead (without it ever looking like NASCAR-like 'pack' racing or commentators secretly promoting 'the big one') a green flag stretch of more than 100 laps which helped break a 23 year old Indy 500 speed record (sorry Arie), a team outside the big buck 'top 3' scoring an extremely popular victory for a 'hard luck' Champion by doing things the old fashioned way, starting their 500 preparation with a dedicated 'Indy Special' race car last fall.

In the late stages of the race an 'All American' 1-2-3 running order, no one 'saving fuel', no contrived 'green, white, checkered' finish, no TV cameras falling on the track during the race and above all, no 'boogity, boogity, boogity. NASCAR continues to slowly implode while Indy seems to be on the road to recovery.

A long overdue victory for Tony Kanaan, a new potential star in Carlos Munoz, new respect for a mature, focused Marco Andretti, the rising stars of Ryan Hunter-Reay and AJ Allmendinger. I can't believe any casual spectator (except those who love crashes) who watched both races yesterday could possibly come away unimpressed what happened at The Speedway yesterday. Paul Zimmermann
