Tony Stewart on Ricky Stenhouse: ‘I’d choke him right now’

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. used to drive open-wheel cars for Tony Stewart. The two friends even joke about how many torn up chassis from Stenhouse’s wrecks now serve as artificial reefs on Stewart’s property. But that doesn’t mean it’s all friends on the race track, and Stewart was apparently angry at Stenhouse on Sunday night following the Coca-Cola 600.

Late in the race, Stenhouse slid into Stewart-Haas Racing driver Danica Patrick, who then had contact with Brad Keselowski, damaging Keselowski beyond repair and ruining a potentially good run for Patrick.

Oh, did we mention that Patrick is Stenhouse’s girlfriend? Ricky Stenhouse, I'd choke him right now if I could get to him," Stewart told Sirius XM Radio, according to a USA Today report. "One more lap of having to mess around with him … "

Stewart told the radio network that Stenhouse is one of those drivers who blocks too much. For the last year, Stewart has lashed out or retaliated against drivers—Brian Vickers and Joey Logano among them—for what he considers excessive blocking.

The actual wreck with Patrick had nothing to do with blocking and everything with being three-wide in tight corners. Sporting News
