Miles: IndyCar won’t run Labor Day weekend at IMS because of NHRA
Dear Steve, The problem is simple and easy to resolve. The Kentucky Derby does not run on a holiday weekend. It is something we have written about on numerous occasions here at AR1.com. The Indy 500 TV ratings will continue to plummet until they reach a lowly 1.0 if they do not move the race under the lights on Saturday night. In today's day and age people are not going to sit in front of a TV on a Sunday afternoon for three hours on Memorial Day weekend. Just isn't going to happen. Too many family events that weekend. So the 'IndyCar blind' can continue to say they can't break tradition and leave the race Sunday afternoon and watch it downward spiral into TV oblivion, or they will move it under the lights on Saturday night and watch the TV ratings double immediately. When it used to run on Sunday night on ABC, TV Share was over 30% (# of households tuned in). Yes you read that right, not 3.0, thirty as in 30.00 (See related article). It's that simple really. However, I don't expect they'll change it. It's tradition after all. Maybe they can write that on IndyCar's tombstone. Mark C.
