Standing start at Milwaukee this weekend

The International Federation of Rickshaw Racing, sanctioning body of the International Rickshaw Racing Association, announced today that standing starts will be utilized for this weekend's World Championship of Rickshaw Racing at the Milwaukee Mile. The event, part of the two-day Milwaukee IndyFest lineup, will be the only race at the historic one-mile oval this Father's Day weekend to abandon the traditional running start utilized by the IZOD IndyCar Series and Mazda Road to Indy series also racing in West Allis, Wis. this weekend.

Seventeen rickshaws will take to The Mile this weekend for two heat races on Friday followed by the final one-lap showdown going green at 11:35 a.m. on Saturday. This unique racing event, deemed the World Championship of Rickshaw Racing, will feature some of the finest cyclists and man-powered taxi drivers the state of Wisconsin has to offer.

The Milwaukee IndyFest weekend schedule officially begins Thursday as Firestone Indy Lights and Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires test on the historic one-mile oval. Fans are welcome to watch all the Indy Lights and Pro Mazda action for free from the grandstands from 10 a.m. – 5:45 p.m. Additionally, Marcus Hotels and Resorts will be hosting the official Milwaukee IndyFest Street Party at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center. The street party will feature live music, Milwaukee food trucks, a car show, driver appearances, House of Harley-Davidson parade and live entertainment to rev up race fans.

On Friday festivities kick-off with practice and qualifying for the IZOD IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights, in addition to exciting race action from Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires from 6 – 7 p.m. Fans can watch the action from the grandstands for free on Friday. General admission tickets for Saturday are $25 for adults and $5 for children the age of 12 and below. Saturday's action will begin with infield activities opening at 8:30 a.m. while the Firestone Indy Lights race takes the green flag at 1 p.m. CT. The IZOD IndyCar Series 250-lap race will begin at 3 p.m. CT/4 p.m. ET.
