Taylor Brothers Sweep Mid-Ohio Front Row

Wayne Taylor got an early Father’s Day present Friday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, when his sons Jordan and Ricky took the top two positions in qualifying for Saturday’s GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Diamond Cellar Classic.

Jordan Taylor captured his second consecutive TOTAL Pole Award in the Daytona Prototype class with a lap of 105.642 mph/1:16.947 seconds in the Wayne Taylor Racing No. 10 Velocity Worldwide/Toshiba Corvette DP. Taylor and co-driver Max Angelelli went on to win the most recent Rolex Series race – the Chevrolet GRAND-AM 200 at Detroit Belle Isle two weeks ago – taking the lead in the Daytona Prototype championship.

Ricky Taylor led the session early on with a lap of 105.567/1:17.001 seconds in the No. 90 VisitFlorida.com/Go-Pro Corvette DP before being eclipsed by his younger brother with less than two minutes remaining.

“Ricky was probably the last person I’d want to bump off," Jordan said. “We’re not the kind of brothers that want to beat each other. But I know if I was in his position, I’d be furious."

“That was a proud moment," Wayne Taylor said. “One lap, Ricky was on the pole, and then the next lap, Jordan was on the pole. I’m obviously happy to have both of my kids on the front row – this is the first time that’s happened."

Christian Fittipaldi qualified third in the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP co-driven by Joao Barbosa, 105.295/1:17.200 seconds, followed by Jon Fogarty in the No. 99 GAINSCO Auto Insurance Corvette DP and Burt Frisselle in the No. 9 Action Express Racing Corvette DP.
