Munoz wins Lights pole in Pocono
Munoz, driving the No. 26 Dialy-Ser car for Andretti Autosport, tied Raphael Matos, Esteban Guerrieri and Sebastian Saavedra for 10th on the all-time Firestone Indy Lights (1986-present) with his sixth career pole.
Munoz, the final qualifier, recorded a two-lap average speed of 188.861 mph on the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway tri-oval. He'll share the front row with championship points leader Sage Karam (187.302 mph) for the 40-lap race at 4 p.m. (ET) with the IMS Radio Network and live Timing & Scoring on www.indycar.com and the INDYCAR 13 app.
"I'm happy with the one point for the pole position, but the race is 50 points and that's what is important," Munoz said. "It will be a fun race and I expect we'll be close throughout the race."
Karam, who won the past two races driving the No. 8 Schmidt Peterson with Curb-Agajanian car, earned his third front-row start of the season. He takes an eight-point lead in to the race.
Gabby Chaves (186.990 mph) in the No. 7 Schmidt Peterson with Curb-Agajanian car and teammate Jack Hawksworth in the No. 77 car (186.591 mph) will share Row 2.
