Briscoe sent to hospital (breaks wrist)
Briscoe was running 12th during Saturday’s event when Justin Wilson and Charlie Kimball made contact, sending Wilson’s No. 19 car into the path of Briscoe’s National Guard car. With nowhere to go Briscoe made contact with Wilson’s car, and injured his wrist while holding onto the steering wheel during the contact.
“All of us at Panther Racing hate to see this happen to Ryan, but we’ve spoken with (IndyCar orthopedic consultant) Dr. Terry Trammel and the quick recovery time for this type of injury is very encouraging," Panther Managing Partner John Barnes said. “We all wish Ryan a very speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back in the National Guard car very soon."
Panther will announce its intention to either utilize a replacement driver in tomorrow’s race at Toronto or to withdraw from participation on Sunday morning.
07/13/13 Ryan Briscoe has been sent to the St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto for X-rays on his right wrist after an accident with Sebastian Saavedra and Tristan Vautier in Turn 5 of lap 64 of today's Honda Toronto IndyCar race. No word yet on the findings of the x-ray.
