2014 Corvette Stingray to Lead GRAND-AM Field at Indy

Road racing fans will get a chance to see the 2014 Corvette Stingray pace a GRAND-AM race for the very first time this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. And then they'll get to see it pace another one. The 2014 Corvette Stingray—the quickest, most powerful and most fuel-efficient standard Corvette ever—will serve as the pace car for the Rolex Series and Continental Tire Challenge races on Friday, July 26.
"Pacing races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is very important to Chevrolet," said Jeff Chew, Marketing Manager for Chevy Racing. "Road racing fans will get a chance to see the 2014 Corvette Stingray pace a GRAND-AM race for the very first time. It should be a very exciting weekend for sports-car enthusiasts."
Chevrolet has a long history of pacing races at the famed Brickyard, dating back 65 years, and will also pace this weekend's companion NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide series races. This will be the 20th consecutive year that a Chevrolet has paced the Sprint Cup race at IMS. "Chevrolet is proud and honored to once again be part of this very special weekend at IMS," Chew said.
The 2014 Corvette Stingray has 460 horsepower and can go from 0-60 in under 4 seconds, and has better fuel economy than the current Corvette's EPA-estimated 26 mpg highway. GRAND-AM Road Racing is back at the famed Brickyard for the second consecutive year, and while Chevrolet will be seeking its first road racing victory at the celebrated venue, the manufacturer will carry plenty of momentum into this year's race.
The Corvette DP has won five of the seven races in the Daytona Prototype class, and Chevrolet leads the Manufacturer Standings. In addition, the Camaro GT.R has four class victories in Grand Touring (GT). "
Our Chevrolet teams in GRAND-AM are well prepared for this weekend's race," said Jim Lutz, Chevrolet Racing Program Manager, GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series. "All of our teams and drivers learned a great deal from the Indianapolis race last year, and have applied those lessons well for this weekend's race – in the wet or the dry. It has been a successful season through the first seven races for Team Chevy. We are looking forward to continuing the momentum with success at the Brickyard."
While at the track, fans can see and learn more about the full Chevrolet line-up by visiting the Team Chevy Racing Display, will be located next to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, and will be open Friday, July 26, from 8 a.m.-8 p.m., Saturday, July 27, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, July 28, from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Fans also can check out at the display Chevrolet Performance Parts crate engines and an assortment of accessories and performance parts that can be purchased from their local Chevy dealer. And, fans who sign up with Team Chevy will receive a special Chevrolet t-shirt.
