Allmendinger Tops Rolex Series Final Practice At Indy

A trio of household open-wheel names fittingly topped the charts in opening Rolex Series practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Alex Gurney – son of racing legend and former Indianapolis 500 runner-up Dan Gurney – set the fastest time in the opening session for the Brickyard Grand Prix with a lap of 1:22.352 (110.77 mph) in the No. 99 GAINSCO Corvette DP. NASCAR and IndyCar veteran AJ Allmendinger was second quickest in the No. 6 Aero/Tuvacol/Curb Records Ford/Riley with a lap of 1:22.387, while Joey Hand was third in the No. 02 NTT Data BMW/Riley he will share this weekend with Indy 500 champion Tony Kanaan.

In GT, Boris Said was quickest with a lap of 1:29.519 (101.90 mph) in the No. 31 Marsh Racing Corvette. Anthony Lazzaro in the No. 69 FXDD Ferrari 458 (1:29.686) and Bill Auberlen’s No. 94 Turner Motorsport BMW M3 (1:29.727) rounded out the top three. Tom Long topped GX with a lap of 1:34.801 in the No. 70 Mazdaspeed/Castrol Mazda 6. The session was halted five times for minor on-track spins.
