Aston Martin, AMG ink technical partnership deal

Aston Martin has announced details of a technical partnership with AMG, the high-performance arm of Mercedes-Benz. As part of the proposed agreement, Aston Martin would get bespoke V8 powertrains and access to electronic/electric components in return for a five per cent share in the company.

In an official statement Aston Martin said "an essential element of the planned partnership is a supply agreement between Mercedes-AMG, Daimler AG (Mercedes-Benz's parent company) and Aston Martin."

Aston Martin would continue to produce all of its cars at its headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire, it confirmed, but the deal would mean that its next generation of models would use electronics and engines that benefit from the superior resources of Mercedes-Benz.

Daimler AG would own a stake of up to five per cent of non-voting shares in Aston Martin, depending of the progress of the agreement. It would join the existing shareholders, which include Investment DAR, Adeem Investment and Investindustrial.
