Domenicali: Alonso will not leave Ferrari

Every Ferrari has been slow since Domenicali took over. Maybe he is the one who needs to leave.

Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali says he is certain Fernando Alonso will remain with the outfit next season, shunning rumors of a possible move to rivals Red Bull.

The speculation arose over the course of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, during which Alonso's manager, Luis Garcia Abad, held conversations with Christian Horner, whose Red Bull team is pondering a replacement for the outgoing Mark Webber.

Asked if he is afraid of losing Alonso, Domenicali replied: "No. First of all we have a contract with him."

The Italian added: "Fernando is an asset to the team. We need him to work very closely with everyone because this is a difficult moment in the season. It's about team work. We have to deliver a job, full stop. This is the same for everyone, not only for him."

According to Abad, his discussions with Horner revolved around Red Bull youngster Carlos Sainz Jr., who is competing in GP3 with the Briton's MW Arden squad. The Spaniard, 18, drove for Red Bull and Toro Rosso at the recent Young Driver Test.

Alonso's contract with Ferrari, last renewed in 2011, runs through the 2016 season.
