When the going gets tough, Ford bails

Has there ever been a racing series where Ford stands to fight when they are not winning? The biggest news to come out of NHRA last week was Ford Racing officials confirming they will no longer support race teams on the professional level of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series after 2014. That means John Force Racing, Tasca Racing and Tim Wilkerson Racing will scramble for another manufacturer and/or more sponsorship for 2015 and beyond.

“We made a business decision as we evaluated the Pro/Nitro level in the sport this past year, reviewing our investment, the returns from activation, television ratings and overall product/technology relevancy," Ford Racing director Jamie Allison said. “It is vital that we align our motorsports at Ford to closely match our global products, technologies and customer outreach, especially in this ever-changing automotive world."
