Franchitti working on new book ‘The Romance of Racing’

Dario Franchitti's new book cover

Three-time Indy 500 winner and four-time champion has a new book coming out in late November. The publication, a joint project with friend and former editor of Autosport and RACER magazines, is a collection of essays written by the Scot about legends, his heroes and friends in racing from the 1950s to date.

The high-quality 128-page coffee table book is illustrated by some of the sport’s finest photographers’ archives including Cahier, Getty Images, LAT Photographic and Sutton Images as well as gifted individuals. The foreword has been written by double World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi, and there is a special contribution from triple title winner Sir Jackie Stewart OBE.

“The book has been a great trip down memory lane for me," says Franchitti, who is a great fan of motorsport history. “Making it, we treated it almost like a conversation. Andy would send me some pictures, and they usually triggered something that would form the basis of the essay. The quality of the pictures is remarkable, and it’s very easy to get lost in the moment and step back in time."

A pre-launch campaign is in place until September 29, and there are a handful of versions of the books up for grabs, from the basic book, to one with the supporter’s name on a limited edition cover, up to a signed book, which is limited to 50.
