Perez stops short of calling McLaren MP4-28 junk
Sergio Perez |
Sergio Perez's goal for the remainder of this season is to beat Jenson Button in his "complicated, difficult and inconsistent" MP4-28.
The former Sauber driver is in the midst of a trying first season with McLaren, which has at times seen the team woefully off the pace.
Steps forwards have been counteracted with steps back as the Woking outfit has struggled to understand their 2013 car and get the most out of its Pirelli tires.
"It's been a difficult year. The car is complicated, difficult and inconsistent," Perez told Diario de Mexico.
"I don't expect miracles."
However, the one thing he does expect is to beat his team-mate in the Drivers' Championship.
At present Button is ninth to Perez's 12th but the points difference is 21.
"The goal is to beat Jenson as I have the good luck that he is a World Champion," the Mexican driver explained.
"That is the goal for the remaining races as I know the potential of the car is difficult."
"I'm about 20 points away and it's hard with this car but I'm sure I can finish it."
