Minor alterations made to Monza circuit

Minor alterations have been made to the curbing of the Monza circuit ahead of this weekend's Italian Grand Prix, in a bid to avoid a repeat of incidents similar to that experienced by Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne during the 2012 event.

Last season's race saw Vergne become airborne over the Turn 1 chicane, having lost control under braking. Entering the corner at a sideways angle, the kerbing launched his car into the air, before he suffered a heavy landing. To remedy the situation, circuit officials have lengthened the lead edges of the curbs at the apexes of Turns 1 and 4.

Other modifications include the extension of the curbs at the first Lesmo in order to prevent damage to the grass verge, and the replacement of a guardrail next to the first corner. In a further attempt to stop cars running excessively wide on the exit of the Variante Ascari chicane, the artificial grass has been extended by 50 meters.
