Rosberg questions Mercedes strategy

Rosberg in Singapore

Nico Rosberg has questioned Mercedes' strategic calls during Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix, the German unable to convert his qualifying form into a podium result.

Having battled pole-sitter Sebastian Vettel throughout the opening sequence of corners, Rosberg found himself occupying a solid second place, but a subsequent Safety Car period – caused by Daniel Ricciardo – saw strategies thrown wide open.

While the majority of the top ten pitted during the effective pause, Rosberg was one of the drivers to stay out on-track, ultimately making his final stop under race conditions.

After recovering to fourth, Rosberg said: "I'm sure we didn't get the most out of it. I don't know if we should have just taken the risk and stayed out with the Safety Car. Could we have managed that? I'm not sure.

"It was just a difficult race from the Safety Car onwards. There were a lot of different strategies and it's likely we could have done better. I don't know if it could have been a lot better or a little bit, but it didn't go ideally, that's for sure. Now we need to learn from it."

Teammate Lewis Hamilton, who came home in fifth position, added: "I don't think we can come away satisfied. I'm disappointed with the result we got considering how much we were pushing. Perhaps the strategy wasn't as good as we had hoped."
