Detroit Grand Prix and Long Beach GP race dates announced (Update)

UPDATE With the NJ F1 race back on the calendar for 2014 and slated to be run June 1st, it is bad news for the Detroit GP also slated to run on the June 1st weekend. Road Course open wheel fans are open wheel fans, and if given a choice between Detroit or NJ overlooking Manhattan, want to bet which one they are going to choose? And to make matters worse, the following weekend is the Canadian GP, so Canadian open wheel fans will save their money for Montreal rather than Detroit. Therefore, date-wise Detroit could not come at a worse time of year. IndyCar would be better off running in Texas on June 1st, which would make Eddie Gossage happy.

09/20/13 The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix race weekend on Belle Isle will be held next year on May 30-June 1.

The IndyCar series had its first doubleheader — races held on consecutive days — this past June 1-2 in Detroit. Next year's IndyCar schedule should be released in the next few weeks to show if another doubleheader will be held on Belle Isle.

The IMSA series announced the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship schedule today with a race in Detroit during the IndyCar weekend set for May 31.

Grand Prix Association of Long Beach officials today announced that the 40th Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, April 11-13, 2014, will host the third round of the newly entitled TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

The series, which announced its full 2014 schedule today, is the result of a merger between the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) – a Saturday afternoon racing mainstay at the Grand Prix from 2007-13 and the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series, which raced here in 2006.

The new series joins a racing lineup that includes the IndyCar Series, Indy Lights, Pirelli World Challenge and Super Drift Challenge, with more racing events to be announced shortly.
