New Hampshire postscript

Just how impressive was the performance of Matt Kenseth and Joe Gibbs Racing during Chase race number two? Here's some New Hampshire numbers to support the theory.

1. Matt Kenseth's average finish ratio for the first two races in the 2013 Chase for the Sprint Cup. Kenseth also scored his first win, and first top five finish in 28 starts, at a track he originally… claimed that he never really cared for. Bet he likes it now.

2. New Hampshire marked Kenseth's second, consecutive, Chase win. Bet the competition is already very worried about this accomplishment. JGR team mate Kyle Busch finished second for the second, consecutive, time.

3. Kenseth is only the third driver to win the opening two races of the Chase. Greg Biffle did it in 2008 followed by Tony Stewart in 2011.

.533. Kenseth's close margin of victory over Busch.

5. In the final moments of the New Hampshire race, Kyle Busch was making quick work of reeling in his team mate. He later said: "if the race would have been five laps longer, the finish would have been very-very interesting."

7. New Hampshire was Kenseth's seventh win of the year in what has been an amazing season.

12. Kenseth is the 12th different driver, in the last 12 races, to win at New Hampshire.

14. Kenseth's points lead over Kyle Busch in the Chase standings.

20. The New Hampshire Motor Speedway traditionally awards its winning drivers a giant lobster in victory lane. The lobster presented to Kenseth weighed 20 pounds. Imagine the price of a 20 pound lobster at a five star restaurant.

31. New Hampshire was Kenseth's 31st career Sprint Cup win.

106. Kenseth led a race high 106 laps during his dominant performance at New Hampshire.

500. The New Hampshire race marked Kenseth's 500th official Sprint Cup start. Kenseth is only the second driver in NASCAR history to win his 500th start. King Richard Petty was the first.

262,066. Kenseth's share of the $5.3 million race purse.

Finally, here's two more unimportant, if not even indeed useless, New Hampshire numbers that came my way.

4. The number of times there was an audio/video reference to Danica Patrick during the race. Seriously? Only four? Hey, she finished 27th on the lead lap! Go Daddy is not going to be pleased with this number. Danica Danica Danica my hero.

14.25. For reasons I'm not sure of, a New York City based real estate agent sent me an email to inform me that Jimmie Johnson purchased a new luxury apartment at a price of $14.25 million. I suppose if I sold a high end apartment to a high profile client I would also litter cyberspace with emails. Dave Grayson
