Lack of money sees Peter Dempsey lose Indy Lights ride

Peter Dempsey

Peter Dempsey has been left without a drive for the final two Firestone Indy Lights races of the season following the Belardi team's withdrawal due to a lack of funds.

"It's very disappointing to not be in a position to finish out the championship with Belardi Auto Racing," said Dempsey. "However, I do fully understand the unfortunate reasons for their decision. Motorsport is an expensive sport and things like this happen all the time.

"I've really enjoyed the last year with the team. [Team owner] Brian [Belardi] gave me the biggest opportunity anyone has ever given me, and that's something I will never forget."

"[Belardi and I] had a lot of success, winning the Freedom 100 [at Indianapolis] and achieving multiple podiums," Dempsey said.

"I worked as hard as I could for the team and brought them the best season they've had in the series, and I'm very proud to be a part of that. I now feel that I am more prepared than ever for IndyCar."
