Veach leads miniscule Indy Lights lineup
Points leader Sage Karam (L) congratulates Zach Veach (R). The huge Fontana crowd looks on. |
Zach Veach will start from the pole position – his first career pole – for tomorrow's Lefty's Kids Club 100 on the 2-mile oval in the Inland Empire; the 18-year-old will be joined on the front row by teammate Carlos Munoz.
"This year has had a lot of learning experiences for us but for us to get the pole the last race of the season, it says that we've learned a lot and hopefully we can do a lot better tomorrow in the race and carry that momentum in the offseason. I'm really excited with this being the last race with Firestone and to be able to say I won a pole with Firestone is going to be something really honorable for me."
Firestone Indy Lights veteran Carlos Munoz will make his 10th start from the front row tomorrow at Auto Club Speedway. After starting from the second position behind teammate Zach Veach, the 21-year-old will also be filling in for Andretti Autosport teammate E.J. Viso in tomorrow's IZOD IndyCar Series 500-mile finale just two hours later in the No. 5 car.
"Yeah it was a really good qualifying run. I just came out from the IndyCar practice almost straight to (Firestone) Indy Lights qualifying and, man, it was really different. It was good – I think we have quite a good car and we'll see how tomorrow goes."
