McLaren confirms Magnussen, Lotus confirms Kovalainen

(GMM) Two hot rumors became formula one facts on Thursday.

McLaren was first to release its morning press release from Austin, confirming that its development junior Kevin Magnussen will replace Sergio Perez for 2014.

"We're delighted that Kevin will be joining Jenson (Button) as a McLaren race driver for 2014," said team boss Martin Whitmarsh.

Half an hour later, Lotus also admitted that a strong paddock rumor was indeed true, as Heikki Kovalainen was unveiled as Kimi Raikkonen's replacement for the last two grands prix of the season.

"We must thank Tony Fernandes and Caterham F1 Team for their professional conduct in allowing Heikki to join us for the final races of this season," said team boss Eric Boullier.
