Alonso fit to race in Austin
The Spaniard was sent bouncing across the curbs in Abu Dhabi a fortnight ago following an incident with Jean-Eric Vergne, and complained of back pain afterwards.
The Ferrari driver was required to undergo precautionary hospital checks on the evening of the race following the impact, which was measured at 25G, although the two-time World Champion maintained throughout that his participation in Texas this week was never in doubt.
FIA rules also required him to be checked again on Thursday, but Alonso was given the all-clear following a series of tests at the Circuit of the Americas' medical centre.
Following the tests, which was led by Steve Olvey, he decided to skip media commitments and returned to his hotel in order to continue his recovery.
