The 2014 Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires is beginning to take shape with a few team and driver combinations already announced.

Reigning series champion Andretti Autosport run 2013 American Shelby Blackstock and Canandian Garett Grist. Blackstock, a Tennesse native, scored two pole positions and one win last year in Pro Mazda driving for Andretti Autosport. Grimbsy, Ontario native Grist won the third leg of the Mid-Ohio U.S. F 2000 round in 2013, and finished third in the championship.

Twenty-one year old Michael Johnson moves up to Pro Mazda after running U.S. F2000 in 2013 with JDC Motorsports. Johnson, a native of Mount Morris, MI is of course, paralyzed from the waste down after a motorcycle accident in 2005. He finished 19th in last season's U.S. F2000 Championship.

Team Pelfrey is back with two cars in 2014. Luis Felipe "Pipo" Derani from Sao Paulo, Brazil joins the team afer finishing 8th in last year's European F3 Championship. The twenty-year old Derani hopes to be competing in the Indianapolis 500 by 2016.

Derani will be joined at Team Pelfrey by twenty-year old Stouffville, Ontario native Dalton Kellett. Kellett finished sixteenth in last season's U.S. F2000 Championship, and is also working on obtaining a degree in Engineering Physics from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.

Last, Neil Alberico will move up from U.S. F2000 and drive for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing. The twenty-one year old Los Gatos, California native scored a series high six wins, and finished second in last year's U.S. F2000 championship to Canadian Scott Hargrove.

As for Hargrove, he tested recently with the Cape team at Barber, and could be in line to join Alberico in 2014.

The 2014 Pro Mazda Championship presented by Cooper Tires will comence with two races the weekend of March 29-30 on the Streets of St. Petersburg.
