Eddie Cheever heads for NASCAR Euro series
The 20-year-old, whose father Eddie scored nine podiums during his Formula 1 career and won the Indianapolis 500, has spent the past three seasons competing in various Formula 3 championships.
After finishing runner-up in the Italian series in 2012, he graduated into Euro F3 last year with Prema, but was only able to sporadically break into the top 10.
He will now contest a full season in the NASCAR European series, as part of a three-car attack from CAAL Racing.
The team competed in the final two races of 2013, and claimed a hat-trick of top-five finishes in the Le Mans finale.
"We strongly believe in this series because it offers great value for money, it is run on historic tracks, the cars are really fun to drive and the crowds are always large," CAAL team manager Luca Canneori said.
"There are also interesting prizes and the possibility, for young drivers coming from karting and open wheels, to pursue a career in the US."
Cheever will be partnered by compatriots Fabrizio Armetta and Nicolo Rocca, with CAAL Racing working to organize a fourth entry before the season commences at Valencia on April 12-13. Autosport.com
