Indy 500 Group 1 Qualification Report

UPDATE Montoya’s qualifying effort is the fastest qualifying attempt of the month, so far and his fastest lap (231.540 mph) is the fastest qualifying lap of the month and he will start 10th. Kurt Busch is not far behind at 230.5 mph and as such, is the fastest rookie

05/18/14 Near-ideal weather lead to fast speeds in Group 1 (spots 10-33) qualification today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Row 4 will consist of Juan Pablo Montoya, Scott Dixon and Kurt Busch. All three easily bested the fastest speed set in yesterday’s qualification attempts.

Row 5 will consist of Jack Hawsworth, Justin Wilson and Mikhail Aleshian. Row 11 will consist of Sage Karem, Sebastian Savaadra and Buddy Lazier.

There were no incidents in the attempts, meaning we still have only 1 wall contact incident for the entire month. Ganassi found a bunch of speed for both Dixon and Kanaan (6th row).
