EJ Viso makes it two-in-row in Detroit Super Trucks

EJ Viso made it two-in-a-row Saturday. The first race of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix weekend on Belle Isle was a wild one Friday afternoon, with trucks soaring 15 feet in the air off ramps, then blistering the straightaway at 150 mph.

In the end, one truck slammed into the wall, another landed upside down and E.J. Viso escaped to win the crash-shortened event after thrilling thousands of fans on Free Prix Day on the island.

Robby Gordon, founder of the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Truck Series, finished second and Arie Luyendyk Jr., third.

"It's a whole new experience," said Viso, a former IndyCar driver. "You can see it on two and three wheels in the corner and it’s definitely super fun. It’s always scary, four wheels are scary, too. It moves everywhere. Braking is scary, just outbraking the guy who is trying to pass you."

E.J. Viso took his second Menards Formula Off-Road Presented by TRAXXAS victory in as many days at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix Saturday, besting 16-year-old Scotty Steele by 1.540 seconds in the high-flying Stadium Super Trucks.

Viso, 29, inherited the lead from Steele on lap three of five around the 2.35-mile race circuit, and cruised to victory lane. Despite his smooth drive, Viso’s Momo/Gridstar truck experienced his biggest challenge after taking the checkered flag halfway through his cool-down lap.
