Kanaan leads opening practice in Texas

Tony Kanaan leads a Ganassi 1-2-3 in opening practice at TMS.

Target Chip Ganassi Racing's Tony Kanaan set fast time in the opening Verizon IndyCar Series practice for the Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway. With a lap of 219.382 miles-per-hour Kanaan was 0.11 seconds quicker than teammate Scott Dixon. NTT Data Chip Ganassi Racing's Ryan Briscoe made it a Ganassi and Chevrolet top-3 sweep, clocking in 0.17 seconds slower than Kanaan.

Andretti Autosport's Marco Andretti was the quickest Honda in fourth. 2013 Texas winner Helio Castroneves rounded out the top-5.

Castroneves' Team Penske teammate Juan Pablo Montoya made it 5 of the first 6 spots for The Bowtie Brigade. Dale Coyne Racing rookie Carlos Huertas was the second fastest Honda placing an impressive P7 in his first visit to TMS. Ed Carpenter, Justin Wilson, and Will Power completed the top-10.
