Jones wins Iowa truck race
Jones, who started on the front row with his Kyle Busch Motorsports teammate, Darrell Wallace Jr., led a race-high 131 laps en route to his second career victory in the Truck Series.
The 18-year old scored his second win in just nine Truck Series starts, with his first win coming last November at Phoenix.
Jones did have to hold off a hard-charging Ryan Blaney, though. Blaney led 26 laps in the race and looked to be gaining on Jones through lap traffic. He ultimately would come up a bit short, finishing 0.630 seconds behind.
Blaney was able to jump up to second in the point standings with the runner-up finish. The reigning series champion, Matt Crafton, finished third in the race and retook the points lead from his ThorSport Racing teammate Johnny Sauter. Sauter struggled on this night to an 18th-place finish and slipped to third in the standings.
Wallace Jr. was in the mix for awhile as well leading 41 laps in the early going. However, he hit pit road and a caution came out shortly after that, trapping him a lap down in the event and he finished in 13th place.
Contact between Truck Series veterans Timothy Peters and Ron Hornaday Jr. led to caution on Lap 62. Peters expressed his displeasure with Hornaday by turning him.
The Truck Series will return to action on July 23 at the dirt track of Eldora Speedway with the 1-800-CarCash Mudsummer Classic.
