GRC: Andretti Autosport Volkswagen Rallycross NY Preview

Andretti Autosport had a tough weekend recently in Washington, D.C. They look to bounce back this weekend in the The Big Apple.

The Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team hits the Big Apple this weekend, July 19 -20, to compete in the fourth round of the Global Rallycross Championship at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y. After a disappointing weekend in Washington, D.C., for both the No. 77 and No. 34 Volkswagens, Scott Speed and Tanner Foust hope to position themselves ahead of the competition for another podium finish. Volkswagen Rallycross NY will air live on NBC this Sunday, July 20 at 2:00 p.m. EST.

Scott Speed, No. 77 7UP Volkswagen Polo

  • Speed is one point ahead of the competition in the driver's championship standings
  • In between the third and fourth rounds of the Global Rallycross series season, the California native got back behind the wheel of an open-wheel car while testing for Andretti Autosport's Formula E program.

"I'm pumped about this weekend's race in New York. It's a new venue for Global Rallycross, so having the Nassau Coliseum as a backdrop will be an amazing and fun atmosphere to race in. After having some minor setbacks in Washington, D.C. with our engine, the Andretti Autosport team and I are hungry for another win in the No.77 7UP Volkswagen. We started this season off strong and we want to continue to push this weekend to keep the points lead."

Tanner Foust, No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen Polo

  • Foust captured his first 2014 FIA World Rallycross Championship win in Finland post Volkswagen Rallycross DC
  • The 41-year-old sits 11th in the Global Rallycross championship point hunt

"One of the great things about rallycross is that the racing is brought right to the fans, instead of the fans having to travel to the races. Volkswagen Rallycross NY should be a spectacle New York fans have never seen before and I'm looking forward to being a part of it. Since the D.C. round, Andretti has completely gone through both cars and we're looking forward to having full power in New York. I have such respect for the Andretti team and I'm lucky enough to get to watch them work every race."
