AR1's Brazilian sources have instructed us to keep an eye on the very talented 17-year old grandson of two-time Formula 1 World Champion and two-time Indy 500 winner Emerson Fittipaldi, Pietro Fittipaldi.
Fittipaldi was born in Miami but moved to Davidson, NC in his early years. He began karting at age 7, and debuted in stock cars in 2010. In 2011, he captured the NASCAR Limited Late Model Series championship, before contesting the Whelen Modified Series in 2012. Last year Fittipaldi moved to Europe in the hopes of pursuing a career in Formula 1.
So far in 2014, Fittipaldi has captured 5 wins in 8 rounds of Protyre Formula Renault, and has a 36-point lead in the series championship.
While there have been numerous second-generation drivers in F1, Fittipaldi could potentially be the first third-generation driver. Of course, we already mentioned grandfather Emerson. Wilson, the older brother of Emerson competed in 38 Grand Prix scoring 3 World Championship points. Wilson's son Christian had 40 Grand Prix starts and 12 World Championship points. Christian also won two Indy car races in CART, and was part of this year's winning team in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.
