Milwaukee IndyFest Saturday afternoon report

– James Hinchcliffe posted the fastest speed of afternoon practice before spinning out in turn 1. He hit the wall with the left rear side, taking out the rear wing along with the left rear suspension. Hinchcliffe is okay and no doubt will be back for qualification. Ed Carpenter found speed to post second-fastest, only 1/10 of a second slower. Tony Kanaan was third fastest, followed by Mikhail Aleshin and Josef Newgarden.

– Silly season also struck today. The press conferences will be held tomorrow, but word has it that Ryan Hunter-Reay will resign with Andretti Autosport. In addition, Ed Carpenter Racing and Sarah Fisher – Hartman Racing will combine forces for 2015. No word on the fate of Joseph Newgarden, whose performance and easy-going manner has been noted by many teams in the paddock.

Last, Mexican Jose Gutierrez of Juncos Racing won pole position for this afternoon's Pro Mazda Race. Nicolas Costa will start second, with championship leader Spencer Pigot third.
