Mortara and Ekstrom penalized by the stewards
The two Audi drivers Edoardo Mortara and Mattias Ekstrom were penalized at Zandvoort. After qualifying, irregularities were found on Mortara’s Audi RS 5 DTM. The front diffuser on the car of the Italian was mounted too low, which is forbidden by article 3.7 of the technical regulations. Following his penalty, the Audi driver loses his third place on the grid and has to start the race at Zandvoort from last position.
Mattias Ekstrom, who set the fourth-fastest time, will be dropped five places on the starting grid. According to the stewards, the 36-year old had obstructed Gary Paffett on his flying lap in qualifying. Instead of fourth place, Ekstrom now would have had to start the race from ninth place on the grid. Following Mortara’s exclusion, Ekstrom and all other drivers move up one place, so that he will be starting eighth.
