Potential issue with Brasilia IndyCar race? (Update)

UPDATE

The Senna track is much nicer than the Brasilia dump

AR1.com has learned that there is a Plan B for the Brazil IndyCar race next year. Instead of racing at the dumpy Brasilia track which needs major reinvestment.

Plan B is to instead race in Goiania, the Goias state capital, at the Autodromo Internacional Ayrton Senna, which was recently renovated by the local government. Moreover, Mike Olinger recently visited the 3.82km circuit, according to sources close to the situation so planning is already underway. Let's hope this change is made for all the obvious reasons.

Look, we're not entirely sure what to make of this report. It's very difficult from the translation to draw any firm conclusions. We've also reached out to INDYCAR, asking if they would be willing to shed some light on the matter. And we will post their response if and when we receive.

However, going off what can be ascertained from this translated article, it appears that bidding for the contract to make the necessary improvements to the Brasilia race course has been suspended.

Of course, Hulman & Company CEO Mark Miles has made clear that the Autodromo Internacional Nelson Piquet would need upgrades to host the Verizon IndyCar Series opener next March 8th. And apparently, the holdup centers around a disagreement over how the contract should be structured. The improvements in the track are suppose to occur in stages, which has caused confusion on how the contract should be structured.

We will continue to follow this story and pass along any pertinent information we obtain.
