Danica to appear in Super Bowl ad
The 28th place finisher in the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup standings |
During Super Bowl XLIX (49), GoDaddy will air a commercial for its 11th consecutive year, and it will be NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Danica Patrick's 14th Super Bowl ad with the web-hosting site.
While GoDaddy became known for featuring scantily clad women and often stirring up controversy, the company has taken a turn in the past few years. Its ads have become more professional and less jaw-dropping. Last year, GoDaddy ran an ad showing a woman quitting her job to set up an online puppet business.
The goal in recent years has been to demonstrate what GoDaddy can do for small businesses, not necessarily to generate controversy, GoDaddy CMO Barb Rechterman told "USA Today."
So 2015's GoDaddy's 30-second spot, titled "Journey Home," will feature Patrick and a puppy telling the story of the journey of a business owner. But there will be a plot twist, Rechterman said. NASCAR.com
(Editor's note: Nothing against Danica here. She's simply squeezing whatever juice so happens to remain in the novelty still surrounding her. Further, we're not ones to pass judgment. Heck, if Go Daddy would like some relief from paying Ms. Patrick's retainer, there are many AR1 staff members who will happily appear scantily clad on camera for probably half Danica's retainer.
That above noted, whatever benefits Danica's Super Bowl commercial may bring her or Go Daddy, it brings none to the sport of racing. Of course, racing is constantly battling for credibility amongst the mainstream American media and public. Having the 28th best stock car driver paraded before the country in some hokey, suggestive ad doesn't exactly further that cause. After all, if a sport's brightest are renowned for looking good in a bikini, not for winning races and championships, can you really blame anyone for not deeming said sport as legitimate?)
