Former NASCAR driver faces meth charges
A former NASCAR driver is facing several drug-related charges after officers reportedly found meth-making materials in the outdoor garbage can of his Goose Creek home. Robert Powell, 49, is charged with possession of meth, and manufacturing of meth. According to a police report, investigators collected a garbage can by the house, which was set by the curb for pick-up. Investigators informed the Drug Enforcement Agency, which noted it found many meth-making materials in the can, including empty containers of drain cleaner, batteries and cold medicine. Agents say many syringes were found, including one that tested positive for meth. Powell and another resident, Elma Buchanan, were both arrested and charged. Powell competed in many NASCAR-sanctioned races in the 1980's (and 1990's including 15 Nationwide races) wistv.com
