Steve Kinser will drive for Tony Stewart Racing in 2015

Legendary sprint car driver Steve Kinser isn't retiring after all.

His boss, Tony Stewart, said the 60-year-old Bloomington driver will compete in about 40 World of Outlaws races for Tony Stewart Racing in 2015.

Stewart said Thursday that it was an easy conversation to have with the seven-time WoO champion.

"Did I have to talk him into it?" Stewart said at the Performance Racing Industry trade show at the Indiana Convention Center. "We had to talk him down from more races."

Kinser has won a record 577 feature races, nearly twice the number of Sammy Swindell in second place. Only three other Outlaw drivers have as many as 100 such wins.

"This is a scenario where (Kinser) is the greatest driver in the sport, and you know there are a lot of drivers who later in their career have to quit for financial reasons, or different reasons," Stewart said. "He's a guy that I think has earned the right to race till he decides that he's ready to retire.

"As long as he wants to race we're going to have a car for him." Indy Star
