Sawyer Leaves Action Express, Assigned to NASCAR Role
The former director of team operations for the defending TUDOR United SportsCar Championship-winning squad has become managing director of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, effective immediately.
"We're fortunate to have a professional in Elton, who has substantial experience across the racing industry, to direct the popular NASCAR Camping World Truck Series," said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer in a statement.
Sawyer, a former NASCAR Xfinity Series driver, joined the Charlotte-based sports car team in Sept. 2010 after competition roles with both Red Bull Racing and Evernham Motorsports in NASCAR.
Chris Mitchum was announced as Sawyer's eventual replacement at Action Express in late November.
