Gene Haas wants to know when Busch can return

Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner Gene Haas is wondering, like everyone else, exactly when Kurt Busch will be able to return to the track.

Haas told reporters following Sunday's win by Kevin Harvick in the Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway he still isn't really sure when it will happen.

"At this time that's really up to NASCAR," Haas said, according to USA Today . "Some of our concerns are, obviously, if he does come back, could we get in the Chase. So, those issues now kind of really reside with NASCAR."

Haas also talked about what a struggle the whole 2015 season has been so far, according to FoxSports.

"Quite frankly, we've had a lot of turmoil over the last year, and we just kind of keep going," Haas said. "I don't know what it is, but I think it's just the nature of, like I say, Tony and myself, how we deal with things. Things we have control over, we try to control, and there's just a lot of things we don't have any control over in both Tony's side and my side.

"Dealing with those kind of things is just part of what it takes to be in this business," Haas said. "Racing is an interesting business because you never know what's going to happen. You never know if you're going to win until the race is over, and I guess running a race shop is very similar to that. It's a challenge, and when things are thrown at us we just basically deal with it and try not to complain about it and do your best to get out of it."

NASCAR has granted exceptions in the past, with the sanctioning body giving Denny Hamlin and Brian Vickers passes due to medical problems.

Tony Stewart was also eligible to make last year's Chase had he won the race at Atlanta or Richmond after his return following the Kevin Ward Jr. incident last August. He didn't win either race.

On Friday, NASCAR Vice President of Integrated Marketing Communications David Higdon said NASCAR is standing behind its actions to suspend the driver , even though he wouldn't be charged. He was making an appearance on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio's Morning Drive. Sporting News
