Pirelli World Challenge, Formula Car Challenge Round Out Sonoma IndyCar weekend

For the first time in series history, the Verizon IndyCar® Series will host its season finale on the road course at Sonoma Raceway. In addition to the high-speed open-wheel INDYCAR action, Sonoma Raceway will host a jam-packed weekend of high-intensity racing, Aug. 28-30.

The Pirelli World Challenge series pairs with INDYCAR for the fifth consecutive year in Sonoma, featuring doubleheader races in the Grand Touring (GT), Grand Touring Cup (GT Cup) and Grand Touring Sport (GTS) classes. The series is powered by top-notch drivers and some of the world’s most recognizable racing machines, including Aston Martin, Cadillac, Bentley, Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche going head to head on the road course.

World Challenge competition will be highlighted by two 50-minute sprint races in each class with no scheduled pit stops or driver changes, standing starts and more manufacturer platforms than any other sports car series. The weekend will feature GT and GTS practice on Friday, qualifying and race 1 for each class on Saturday and a second race in each class on Sunday.

The Formula Car Challenge (FCC) series will also host a double-header race weekend, with open-wheel racing in three classes. The three classes are on track at the same time, but compete for points and championships only within their respective classes. This will mark the fifth time the FCC will be paired with the Verizon IndyCar Series in the Sonoma Valley. Past events have had 33-35 cars on the grid, making this one of the largest open-wheel races in the country.

Tickets are still available for the Verizon IndyCar Series season finale at the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, including the popular Total Access Package, which includes a Sunday reserved ticket, pit and pre-race access and garage pass all for $99. Kids 12-and-under are admitted FREE to the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma and parking is FREE. For more information, visit racesonoma.com/indycar or call 800-870-7223.
