Daniil Kvyat blames lemon Renault engine for poor qualifying

Problems with Daniil Kvyat's Renault power unit hampered him in qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix and contributed to him missing the cut for Q3.

Kvyat will start from 12th on the grid in Sunday's race after struggling with brake issues with his Red Bull throughout practice this weekend. However, he said a reoccurring power unit problem disrupted his performance over qualifying.

"Our qualifying was all the time interrupted by small issues with the power unit and we still have to investigate what happened," Kvyat said. "Our only proper run happened at the end of Q2 and with everything so tight, finding those extra 0.2s or 0.1s was not possible like this. I needed a normal session."

Asked about the chances of a brake issue reoccurring during the race, Kvyat said: "I just don't really want to think about it right now. It's not like I can do anything about the brakes, the team knows about it and I just need to go into the race with the best configuration we have and after that we cannot do anything else."
