Barber Event Summary (Update 3 – Tire selections)
Sebastien Bourdais and KVSH Racing will start today's Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama on Firestone Primary 'Blacks'. |
Below, are the tire selections for today's Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. Nine drivers including all of the top-6 will start the race on the Firestone Alternate 'Red' tires. Sage Karam starting in the twelfth position is the lowest-placed starter on 'Reds.'
Seventh-place starter Sebastien Bourdais is the first driver on the grid using the Primary 'Blacks', which all 11 of the slowest qualifiers have opted for.
What does this all mean?
Well, we imagine that the drivers starting in the back will pit soon after the window opens for a three stop race (around lap 12 by our math) and shed the 'Blacks'. Further, the drivers at the front of the field are looking at a three-stopper as well and should the first stint stay green, expect them in around laps 26-28.
