Mexican F1 Organizers Put On Cooking Demo Ahead Of Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix

Organizers of the Mexican F1 Grand Prix will put on a cooking demonstration at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to promote the series' return to Mexico City later this year. Latin America's leading entertainment company and promoter of the Mexican race, CIE, has partnered with Mexican chef Ruben Boldo to bring a taste of Mexico to the Spanish metropolis. Chef Boldo, who owns a restaurant in Barcelona, will prepare Mexican dishes together with Sahara Force India drivers Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg ahead of Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix at the track. The demonstration is restricted to members of the media and will take place at Force India's trackside hospitality complex at 4pm on Thursday. "The idea is to show what real Mexican cuisine is about, in a very original way," said Rodrigo Sanchez, marketing director of the Mexican F1 Grand Prix.

MORE TO COME: CIE has plans for various other promotional events throughout the ’15 season. Organizers are working on activations at a number of race venues, including Monaco, Montreal, Monza and Singapore, however, Sanchez said, these are yet to be confirmed. The Mexican F1 Grand Prix, which will return after a 23-year hiatus on Nov. 1, has seen incredible ticket demand. The race sold out within minutes after tickets went on sale in February, though a limited amount of hospitality packages are still available. Sanchez said that despite this success, CIE will continue to beat the promotional drum for the event. "It would have been a great mistake to say, 'We did such a great job on our ticket sales, let's just close business until November 1,'" he said. "We need to capitalize on these things and keep communicating and creating awareness. You have to look at the longevity of the project, and we are in this for five years."
