Sunday Qualification, and this is gonna be GOOD!

Ed Carpenter crashed in turn 2 in early practice. Like previous Chevy crashes his car snapped around and backed into the wall. Unlike the previous crashes, while the car did get on its roof it was from the action of the wall than from the air.

This has thrown the entire schedule out the window. 10:00, the scheduled start time for qualification, has come and gone. More importantly, rumor has it that IndyCar will now DISALLOW the added boost, changing the aero for at least the Chevrolet cars, and planning yet another practice session in the near future.

Prior to that Scott Dixon lead the field with a 233.001, more than a tenth faster that Will Power. Not every car that wanted to practice got out on the track, as the yellow flag flew for both the Carpenter incident as well as a later wall repair

Today all 33 spots will be decided. If one of the cars hits the wall and the driver is unable to get back on the track, then we have our 33 for the month. Under old traditional qualifying procedures, Ryan Hunter-Reay would be sitting on the Pole for next week's race, but with the current ad-hoc rain-addled system it would be entirely possible for Hunter-Reay to miss the show if he smacks the wall today.
