Indy 500 post-race notes

It was a good month for J.R. Hildebrand

Below, are a few post-Indianapolis 500 notes bullet point style.

• AFS Chip Ganassi Racing driver Sebastian Saavedra was treated for a right foot contusion. He will undergo further evaluation prior to being cleared to drive
• CFH Racing’s J.R. Hildebrand quietly turned in a strong effort finishing 8th, 1 spot ahead of teammate Josef Newgarden

• A practice crash last Sunday, a month-long struggle to find speed and a lap 112 crash that relegated him to a 30th place finish, made this May a rather forgettable one for 2013 and 2014 pole winner Ed Carpenter.

Takuma Sato rallied to finish 13th after a first lap crash.

• Not sure anyone noticed; however, after losing two laps for repairs from his first lap accident with Sage Karam, Takuma Sato rallied to finish 13th six seconds behind Montoya.

• Defending race-winner Ryan Hunter-Reay endured a difficult day, finishing 15th. Perhaps, more concerning for Hunter-Reay was the fact he was the second-best Andretti Autosport car. After finishing second, third and fourth in 2013, then first and third last year today’s results capped off what was a miserable month for team Andretti. Their finishing order was:

7-Marco Andretti
15-Ryan Hunter-Reay
19-Simona de Silvestro
20-Carlos Munoz
21-Justin Wilson

• Juan Pablo Montoya’s Indianapolis 500 victory was the 16th for Team Penske. Also, Montoya became the 11th driver to win for owner Roger Penske. The roster of Team Penske winners:

Mark Donohue – 1972
Rick Mears – 1979, 1984, 1988, 1991
Bobby Unser – 1981
Danny Sullivan – 1985
Al Unser – 1987
Emerson Fittipaldi – 1993
Al Unser, Jr. – 1994
Helio Castroneves – 2001, 2002, 2009
Gil de Ferran – 2003
Sam Hornish – 2006
Juan Pablo Montoya – 2015
